CAT uses database, smart querying, and statistical comparisons to support translators during the translation and localization process, thereby offering numerous advantages, such as shortening of cycle time, ensuring consistency of the translated text, and reducing translation costs.
CAT tools can be categorized into those that utilize translation memories (TM) and software localization tools. Leading TM-based CAT tools include Trados, SDLX, and IBM TM/Win. Software localization CAT tools include Catalyst, Passolo, RCWinTrans, Microsoft Helium, Microsoft LocStudio, Star Transit, and Logoport. |
